Dead French Guy is Disapointed in Everything

So yeah. Alain exists.

He is basically a ghost from the French Revolution. When he was alive, he and his wife would scam people out of their money (and objects) under the guise of a fancy tavern, mostly so that he and his wife could get by and be able to keep the tavern running. However, sales plummeted when their customers began noticing the money and objects that the couple had taken, and began advising others to avoid the tavern at all costs. Angry, Alain's wife abandoned the scam and left with a bulk of their money. Eventually, Alain sold the building so that he could pay off debt that he owed to some rather angry ex-customers. Left on the streets without money, Alain succumbed to lack of food and the elements.

However, via ghost logic in this universe, his soul became tied to a family heirloom. A little under three centuries in the future, the heirloom falls into the hands of a couple that just so happens to be obsessed with everything supernatural (Often going on world trips to find cryptids). By way of frustrated hijinks, Alain's ghost gets separated from the heirloom. However, his soul is now tied to the one who separated the soul, the couple's daughter Lexi.
